DARRELL RABESS - LIFESTYLE PERSONAL TRAINER - FITNESS ATHLETE - ENTREPRENEUR - MOTIVATOR

As of Sunday night (26/04/20) I decided to do a 48hr water fast. What that consists of is not having any foods or juices for the next 48hrs, only sticking to water, herbal teas, and pink Himalayan salt to your water. I managed to do 45hrs, as I felt my body started to react in a manner that became uncomfortable, with dizzy spells and nausea. This was due to me not hydrating myself sufficiently throughout the day, and a lesson I will learn from when doing it again next time.

Here was my experience of it.

Many people asked me why I was doing this, and honestly there were a few factors.
Firstly - The health benefits of it are incredible, your body will deplete and get rid of toxins that can collate in your gut, help to flush out any excess water you may be carrying and reduce any gut inflammation, are just a few to name. Studies have also indicated that fasting can help boost your metabolism, lower blood pressure, improves cell recycling, whilst supporting fat loss and reducing harmful protein production.

Secondly - It focuses on really connecting your mind to your body. I felt a real spiritual connection from my mind to my body, and it made me realise how strong our minds really are during this state. Personally, for me it was very spiritual and almost therapeutic where I could physically feel myself healing.

Thirdly - Now I'm not one to focus on weight (as I'm always stating muscle weighs more than fat) but as of late I have been carrying excess water due to binge eating on the wrong foods during this quarantine period, and as my business is within the health and fitness industry, I always stress the importance of our nutrition and the impact it has on our mind and body as a whole. The statistics of my weight at the beginning of the fast was 63.8kg and as of the third morning after having broken my fast the previous night was at a surprising 62.4kg, so for me this weight loss was a bonus!
Lastly, as of 2018, I entered into a new direction with my own personal fitness journey and decided to do my first Bodybuilding competition. This has drastically opened my knowledge into foods, understanding my own body, and its functions into reaching its best optimal result. Since then I have maintained the strategy that is required whilst preparing for a show and now feel it is second nature. Having said this, I also felt a need to have a complete reset so when I do return to what I follow my body will respond in a more positive manner and help to reach improved results.

My takeaway from it:-
This is something I would highly recommend, as it has so many benefits as I have previously stated. Furthermore, given the currently situation of this quarantine, I personally believe there's no better time for it. Going forwards this is something I will be implementing at least once a month. This has now reset my body and has allowed me to take the next course of action in my journey.
